Tim brown career stats’s coleman lions golden

September 30, 2008

After starting the season 0-3, Coleman’s Golden Lions start
their second season tonight when they travel to Alcorn State for a
matchup with their Southwest Athletic Conference cohorts in a game to
be televised by ESPNU. Though the teams play in the same conference,
the game doesn’t actually count as a conference game. But that
doesn’t matter to Coleman, who is treating it like one just the
same.“We’re not telling our players it’s not a SWAC
game,” Coleman said. “It’s a SWAC game. We want to
win all SWAC games.”And the Golden Lions just might have a
newfound confidence to help them do just that. After struggling
mightily in their first two games of the season, both losses to NCAA
Division II members Arkansas-Monticello and Henderson State, the
Golden Lions stayed close to a very talented Central Arkansas team
Saturday. The Bears entered the Claw and Paw Classic as the 19th-
ranked team in the Football Championship Subdivision. The Golden Lions
limited UCA quarterback Nathan Brown, who entered as the leading
collegiate passer in state history, to only 181 yards through the
air.The Golden Lions will have a similar test today. Coleman said
Alcorn State quarterback Tim Buckley is a run-pass threat. Through
three games, Buckley, a junior from Madison, Miss., has thrown for 389
yards and rushed for 95 more. Though his stats aren’t extremely
eye-popping, Coleman, who also serves as the Golden Lions’
defensive coordinator, said Buckley would have to be contained if his
team had any chance for victory.

“That makes it very hard,” said Coleman of Buckley’s
running ability. “You don’t usually account for the
quarterback. With a quarterback that can do those things, it makes us
have to change the gameplan some.”But Buckley’s legs
aren’t his only weapon. The junior has completed 51 percent of
his passes on the young season, including completions to 11 different
receivers. Elliott Moore has been his favorite target thus far,
gaining 150 yards on 16 receptions.“They’re a 60/40 (pass-
to-run ratio) team,” Coleman said. “Their quarterback has
a good, accurate arm. They’re a spread offense, and
they’re very effecient. They run three wide receiver or five
wide receiver (sets).”Aimed with stopping the balance of the
Braves (0-3) is a UAPB squad that’s coming off arguably its best
game of the season. Though it surrendered 41 points to UCA Saturday,
the Bears scored 13 points off of UAPB mistakes.Linebacker Tim Turner
leads the defensive charge for the Golden Lions. The senior from
Little Rock leads UAPB with 34 tackles on the season.Meanwhile, UAPB
will counter with an offense that had its most productive game against
UCA. A unit that failed to mount much of a charge in its first two
games, the Golden Lions’ offense attacked UCA with big gains
from running back Mickey Dean and Martell Mallett. The duo combined to
rush for 204 yards. As a team, the Golden Lions gained 216 yards on
the ground, after gaining less than 220 yards of total offense against
Henderson State the week before.“It’s a mind thing
now,” said Coleman of the way his team played agains the Bears.
“They’ve shown us what they can do. That’s what I
anticipate every week. I’m sure they’ll answer the call of
the bell.”But Coleman still knows victory won’t come easy.
Though the Braves have been outscored 128-28 in three games this
season, Coleman knows victory isn’t guaranteed.“The thing
I’ve noticed is they’ve moved the football,” Coleman
said. “Their record doesn’t indicate the type of team they
are.”Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with ESPNU airing the
game to a national television audience.

Gasnier orford games in tim brown career stats

September 30, 2008

St George Illawarra captain Mark Gasnier towered over his Manly rival
Matt Orford at yesterday’s captains call for the NRL finals series.
The two squared off in front of the cameras at Sydney Football Stadium
as part of the build-up for Saturday night’s clash at Brookvale Oval –
and at 193cm, Gasnier stood some 17cm above the pint-sized Sea Eagles
playmaker.

“That was made very clear to me this morning that our record’s not
been the best,” Orford said during yesterday’s press conference.

While Orford brushed the damning statistics aside, it does provide
hope for Dragons supporters still shellshocked that their top-four
crusade has developed into a fight for survival.

The Dragons have won seven of their past eight games against Manly and
won four of six at Brookvale Oval.

“A lot of our games have been a bit scrappy, to be honest, and we’ve
been the better of the teams when we played them.”

Gasnier said he spoke to the players after Friday night’s loss to the
Roosters, telling team-mates their finals campaign had not been
derailed by the 10-0 loss at a rain-soaked SFS.

“After the game (Roosters) when I spoke to the boys, I said as far as
we’re concerned we have to win four games to win the comp,” Gasnier
said.

What is Nathan Brown thinking with keeping Ben Rogers in the starting
side……Bring back Sowie

Jigsaw’s st kilda team

September 30, 2008

FINALLY, all the pieces in that fascinating St Kilda jigsaw puzzle
fell into place.
There was the majestic Nick Riewoldt in full flight, Nick Dal Santo
and Justin Koschitzke on song again after months out of tune, a
refreshing sense of daring all over the field, and impeccable accuracy
in front of goal.

The Saints won their way through to the preliminary final round with
their amazing efficiency with the ball.

They kicked 17 goals from just 21 scores, with Riewoldt, who went into
the game with 57.39 and a dozen wipes to his name, kicking 5.0.

St Kilda went inside 50 only 43 times (Collingwood 55), but the
conversion rate was extraordinary, both with passes to free players
and shots at goal.

The Saints were able to create room for Riewoldt to move, and his
amazing work ethic and superb marking allowed him to wreak havoc.

He had 20 possessions for the match, 19 to three-quarter time, when
the game was done and dusted, his team 40 points in front.

Michael Malthouse left young Nathan Brown with him until early in the
last quarter, but the delivery from Robert Harvey and company made it
an impossible task for even the most seasoned defenders.

It was an authoritative performance by the Saints. Perhaps their best
since the come-from-behind win against Hawthorn in Round 16.

While the Hawks will prove rather more formidable than Collingwood was
on Saturday night, St Kilda has both sound form and renewed
confidence.

It has won nine of 12, including that win against Hawthorn.
Admittedly, that was at Telstra Dome, but there has to be some
residual psychological value.

Leigh Montagna, Raph Clarke, Jason Gram and Dal Santo all were brave
enough to carry the ball in a direct line to goal, which meant
Riewoldt, Koschitzke and Stephen Milne had time and space. They kicked
11 goals between them and were credited with four scoring assists.

The accuracy in front of goal was stunning. According to Champion
Data, it was the most efficient use of opportunities by a winning team
in a final since Essendon kicked 28.6 in the preliminary final of
1984. Against guess who.

It was just the fifth time for the year that Collingwood was out-
tackled, and the Maggies lost all five games.

Collingwood was out of sorts. It lost Scott Burns and Simon
Prestigiacomo to injury before the game, Travis Cloke obviously was
off colour (two possessions in the first half, six for the game), and
most of the youngsters seemed to have stage fright.

St Kilda was able to flood back, choking Cloke, Paul Medhurst, Leon
Davis and Tarkyn Lockyer in the forward 50.

Ross Lyon had to be thrilled with his night. He forced Malthouse to
crowd his own forward line by refusing to allow St Kilda an unguarded
player in defence, and his match-ups were effective, particularly Sam
Fisher on the dangerous Medhurst.

The Magpies will be disappointed for they had beaten St Kilda twice
this year, yet their graph is headed in the upward direction.

Given the youth introduced this year (five newcomers on top of nine
last year), the future is bright.

Cloke, Dale Thomas and Scott Pendlebury all are elite youngsters who
were frustrated and ineffectual on Saturday night.

While the ruck department needs attention, the defence needs another
genuine tall, and the midfield needs zip, Collingwood will be a better
team in 2009-10.

No one, not even the St Kilda faithful, dared dream that possibility
just a couple of months ago.

Geez Em.. Were you one of those less than faithfull Collingwood
supporters who walked out of the match at three quarter time? No
wonder you lot have such a bad reputation – don’t support your team
until the end of the game, can’t take a loss on the chin and then to
top it off you have to hope for the worst for the team that beat you.
Nice.

Oh yes and what a joy it was to watch too. St Kilda fans know to wear
gum boots and to take inflatable life rafts with them because of the
Lyon FLOOD. One thing you’ve forgotten Mike because you’ve let your
love affair of Ringwhat get in the road, is the Hawthorn team will be
at least 4 players drifferent this time round as will the Lyon Floods.
If Hawthorn aren’t wearing life vests they’ll more then likely sink in
another shocking crapy Flood. And if they do they should sue for flood
damage from Lyon. Gee wouldn’t a GF between Lyon and Craig be fun to
watch.

“Like how we did it before”…., sound like the dogs fans 2weeks ago.
History will show the week break is vital. The saint are as much as a
chance as the dog against the cats, not much, but still a chance. They
just scrapped in the top 4, which not many would of predicted at R20.
If the saints lose, they have still exceeded expectations.

Hey KingSaint, go easy on Chris from Melbourne. Considering how many
priority picks the Saints have received it’s hard to keep track of who
was first or second pick. No more freebies Saints.
